Starting April, Teams users can enroll voice profiles just by speaking in meetings. Here is how admins can manage the PassiveVoiceEnroll rollout.
Microsoft is launching express voice enrollment for Teams which will streamline the creation of user voice profiles during active meetings. From April, users that haven’t enrolled will receive in-product prompts to register their voice just by speaking during a session. Microsoft has tagged this as a major update and it is slated to arrive by default for all enterprise tenants except EDU.
This update will automate a task that previously required a more manual enrollment process and will help to increase the adoption of voice-based AI features across the platform.
Microsoft was originally planning to launch this feature in March, but that timeline has now been adjusted so that a Targeted Release starts in early April and General Availability will be available by the end of April. Admins will be able to manage the feature using the PassiveVoiceEnroll within the csTeamsAIPolicy PowerShell cmdlets. If your organization has disabled voice enrollment policies previously, it will remain unaffected.
Once a voice profile has been enrolled, a suite of advanced audio features will be available that includes voice isolation and individualized speaker recognition in shared meeting rooms. These features will also help to improve the accuracy of live transcripts and automated insights created by Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Going forward, admins should check their csTeamsAIPolicy and decide whether passive enrollment aligns with their internal compliance frameworks. The PassiveVoiceEnroll setting can also be disabled ahead of the Targeted Release in early April. Organizations are also encouraged to update internal documentation to reflect the new enrollment workflow and explain the benefits.
