Until Dawn 2 is bringing back the interactive survival horror drama series that first began in 2015 by Supermassive Games

The Sony State of Play presentation had a brand-new first-party game announcement today, and it was from UK developer Firesprite. This surprise announcement was for Until Dawn 2, bringing back the interactive survival horror drama series that first began in 2015 by Supermassive Games. The new studio is making the sequel show up with a new cast of characters and storyline, presented as a standalone experience.

Like in the first game, players will be making decisions throughout the story as time goes by, which will decide what characters survive or perish in the events they face, as well as how the game ends.

“Our cast this time is a crew of ghost hunters, the faces behind the wildly popular paranormal channel, Dead True.. Only, well… they’ve never actually seen anything supernatural,” explains the studio. “The scares they are known for are, let’s say, a little staged. But all that changes when for the very first time, they come face-to-face with real horrors and must start living up to their reputation to survive until dawn.”

The branching storylines will have plenty of butterfly effects, according to the team, where even tiny decisions can affect major storyline details. Just like the original, plenty of recognizable actors are here to portray the protagonists and villains. Catch the first trailer below:

Other than some VR titles, Firesprite has mostly been involved in projects as a support studio, including Horizon Call of the Mountain and Star Citizen. The UK-based development studio was acquired by Sony back in 2021. This is slated to be its first solo project since then.

Until Dawn 2 does not have a firm release date attached to it just yet. Sony says the survival horror game is coming out sometime in 2027 for PlayStation 5 consoles.
