Microsoft has introduced Microsoft Scout, a new autonomous personal workplace agent integrated into Microsoft 365 Copilot.

OpenClaw has quickly emerged as one of the most popular personal AI assistant projects. Unlike traditional AI chatbots that primarily answer questions, OpenClaw is designed to carry out tasks on a user’s behalf, such as managing email, handling calendar activities, and interacting through messaging apps, including WhatsApp and Telegram.

Microsoft is now bringing the OpenClaw concept into the workplace with Microsoft Scout, a new personal agent available inside Microsoft 365 Copilot app and also as a desktop app on Windows and macOS. Scout is now rolling out to Microsoft 365 Frontier customers.

Scout is designed as an always-on autonomous agent for work. Instead of waiting for users to manually ask for assistance, the agent can proactively take care of routine tasks based on the user’s work context. Scout is built on the popular OpenClaw framework and Microsoft’s own Work IQ.

Work IQ is the intelligence layer built on data, memory, and inference. It connects to internal organizational and personal data such as SharePoint files, Outlook emails, and Teams meetings. It also builds personalized memory based on users’ preferences, habits, and workflows. AI agents can make use of Work IQ to provide more relevant and personalized responses to users inside enterprises.

Microsoft highlighted that Scout can help enterprise users prepare for upcoming meetings, identify and resolve scheduling conflicts, and handle routine tasks without requiring repeated prompts.

Here’s what Microsoft Scout can do:

  • Acts on your files: Creates, edits, and searches documents in your workspace. Works with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, code files, and more.
  • Runs commands: Executes shell commands, builds, tests, and scripts with a tiered permission system.
  • Automates browsers: Navigates web pages, fills forms, and interacts with web applications by using Playwright.
  • Connects to Microsoft 365: Manages your email, calendar, Teams messages, OneDrive files, and meetings.
  • Works autonomously: Runs in the background on schedules or triggers you define.
  • Delegates work: Launches specialized sub-agents for parallel research, code review, and complex tasks.

Finally, Microsoft mentioned that it will share more details as Scout gains additional capabilities and becomes available more broadly.

At Google I/O 2026, Google announced Gemini Spark, a 24/7 personal AI agent that can proactively manage tasks and take action on a user’s behalf, under the user’s direction. Powered by Gemini 3.5 and Google’s Antigravity platform, Spark can work in the background and connect with Google tools such as Gmail, Docs, and Slides.
