Everything You Need To Know About The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Pre-Orders

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake won’t arrive for another week, but the hype is already in full swing. Not only is the game number two on the “most anticipated games of the year if not the decade” list (bet you can guess what number one is), but Nintendo is also releasing a seriously gorgeous Switch 2 console that’s all dolled up to match the occasion. Demand is high, quantities are low (or non-existent), and here’s everything you need to know.

How Can I Get The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?

Securing a copy of the Ocarina of Time game is probably the easiest task you can complete. Digital stock will be plentiful of course, and there will also be a number of midnight release events on November 5th. The New York Nintendo Store will hold one requiring reservations and of course, it’s already full up. I tried calling around to see if either Target or Walmart would have midnight releases but no one save their damnable AI agents would pick up the phone. However, Best Buy and select GameStop locations will be having events. Best Buy will let you show up and purchase the game, pre-order or not, while supplies last. And after calling my local GameStop, it seems like its midnight launch is limited to pre-orders only but that might change the closer it gets to November 5th, so call around or plan accordingly.

What About The Special Foil Cover?

At launch, physical copies of the game will come with their covers gilded in foil ala those special Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon cards. According to Nintendo, the first print run of the physical game comes in this special foil-gilded box, so if you’re getting a copy right at launch, whether you preordered or you go to a retail store, it should feature the foil cover. We don’t have specifics on how long this run will last and how soon Nintendo will switch to more standard packaging, however, so if you want one, don’t dilly-dally!

How Do I Get One Of Those Fancy Zelda-Themed Switch 2 Consoles?

That’s the neat part, you (probably) can’t. Pre-orders for the Zelda-themed Switch 2 sold out almost immediately after it was announced. When looking up the console’s availability long after the announcement, I thought it was odd that Walmart still had pre-orders available. Apparently they may not have, as some folks who preordered from Walmart are sharing on Reddit that their preorders are being cancelled the day before the console is supposed to arrive on October 29th.

As part of its midnight launch event on November 5th, Best Buy announced that it will have some extra consoles available that are not allocated for pre-orders. And in a post I’ve seen on Reddit, players are also claiming that on October 29th, Walmart might have some stock too. My local GameStop said it’ll have some consoles available on the 29th, but that I’d have to get there probably right now if I wanted one as they had limited stock and people were promising to camp out for one. I tried calling my local Best Buy to see if it’ll have consoles available tomorrow but got stonewalled by an agent saying they’re not allowed to share any inventory level information even though I didn’t want to know how much they had, just whether or not they’ll be there on the day the console is supposed to go on sale. Ugh!

So, unless you’re willing to risk the sharp knives of your local eBay scalper, get to either your local Walmart or GameStop tomorrow or brave the midnight lines at Best Buy on November 5th.

Are The Ocarina Of Time Switch 2 Pro Controllers Sold Out Too?

Like the console, the Zelda-themed Switch 2 Pro Controller will be on sale October 29th. And like the console, you’re probably gonna have a hard time finding one, but likely not as hard. They, too, are subject to the scalp tax, being sold online for roughly $30-$50 more than the official $99 MSRP. Nintendo is offering a Zelda-themed Switch 2 carrying case, too. Good luck getting one.
