Monster Hunter Outlanders arrives on Android and iOS next week with four-player co-op

It’s turning into a pretty good time to be a Monster Hunter fan who plays on a phone. Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Outlanders will launch on Android and iOS on October 29, giving the series a new mobile-first game just as Monster Hunter Rise is also preparing to make the jump to smartphones through Netflix.

Outlanders is being developed by Tencent subsidiary TiMi Studio Group under license and supervision from Capcom. Unlike Rise, which appears to be the full console and PC game adapted for mobile, Outlanders is a free-to-play survival hunting game made specifically for phones.

A different kind of Monster Hunter game

The game takes place in Aesoland, where players can explore different regions, hunt monsters, gather materials, and craft equipment. Its building system also lets players place launchers, ziplines, and gliding facilities around the world to make getting around easier.

Combat has been adapted for touchscreens, including simplified inputs that can execute combo moves with a single button press. Outlanders also supports real-time co-op for up to four players and includes guilds and fixed teams for people who want to keep hunting together. The game will be free-to-play with in-app purchases. Its mainland China version is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2027.

Monster Hunter Rise is coming too

Outlanders is arriving around the same time Monster Hunter Rise is also heading to Android and iOS through Netflix Games. Unlike the new mobile spin-off, Rise is the full game that originally launched on Nintendo Switch in 2021 and has since sold more than 20 million copies. Its mobile version adds adapted touchscreen controls and Bluetooth controller support, and Netflix says it will come without ads or in-app purchases, although there is still no release date.
